Our client is a prominent law firm in the Rocky Mountain West, known for their high-quality services for emerging and established businesses, with a strong focus on corporate finance and governance, mergers and acquisitions, natural resources, environmental law, real estate, intellectual property, and complex litigation. THE POSITION
The firm is seeking an Accounting Specialist to support the firm’s accounting processes with primary responsibility for the processing and application of funds paid to the organization. The Accounting Specialist will also support the accounts payable processes by performing related tasks.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Identify, post, and reconcile daily cash receipts; research and correct discrepancies
  • Prepare daily deposit report and ensure that it agrees with bank deposit amount
  • Research unidentified payments and resolve client overpayments by coordinating with billing, lawyers, legal assistants and clients
  • Review and process disbursement requests for trust account; ensure accuracy and policy compliance
  • Make daily deposit online with bank scanner, or take deposits to bank as needed
  • Send W-9 to clients as requested and collect annual 1099 forms received from clients
  • Review unallocated balances and apply or refund with proper approval
  • Work with billing attorneys, support staff, and clients to track and collect accounts receivable, including providing accounts receivable statements or client payment reconciliations as requested by attorneys and their assistants.
  • Perform accounts payable tasks as assigned. These may include auditing and accounting approval of employee reimbursement requests submitted via Expert Expense, auditing and reconciliation of charges to firm-issued credit cards including travel expenses, processing of electronic file importing for costs from vendors
  • Apply understanding of sales and use tax laws to ensure compliance in all applicable jurisdictions by properly accruing use tax liability as needed when auditing AP transactions
  • Provide backup assistance to other members of the department
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Skills/Abilities
  • 2-3 years of accounting experience (law firm experience preferred)
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and practices
  • Must have strong technology skills and particularly strong skills in a service-oriented office environment
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Suite, to include Excel and Word and the ability to prepare ad hoc reports and requests as needed
  • Must have good communication skills (i.e., communicate clearly and effectively in both written and spoken English)

COMPENSATION
$55,000 - $65,000/year DOE
